Sangeeta and Naeem Butt Controversary

Seniority vs. Input: Sangeeta Exposes Casting Clash with Naeema Butt

Written by Irfan Maher

In a recent television interview, veteran film director Sangeeta made a shocking revelation about why she abruptly removed actress Naeema Butt from her upcoming cinematic project. Sangeeta candidly stated that Naeema began offering unsolicited advice regarding key casting choices, attempting to dictate who should be cast as the male lead and who should be completely dropped from the film.

Expressing her strict and uncompromising stance on set discipline, Sangeeta remarked, "I don't tolerate tantrums or interference. I have dedicated over 50 years to this industry, whereas Naeema is still relatively new, currently doing good work in television dramas. Back in our golden era, we never dared to speak up or argue in front of our seniors; we used to work quietly like obedient children out of absolute respect."

Naeema Butt Clears The Air — The Token Money & Advisory Truth

Following the viral spread of Sangeeta's statement, actress Naeema Butt stepped forward to share her side of the story, presenting a completely different perspective on the encounter. Naeema confirmed that while an official meeting did take place, she was initially hesitant to take on the film. Despite her repeated politely phrased refusals, Sangeeta insisted on handing over token advance money during their very first interaction. When Naeema tried to return the advance on the spot, Sangeeta stopped her, stating that returning token money to a senior filmmaker was disrespectful and contrary to traditional industry etiquettes.

"Respecting a senior's legacy does not mean compromising on professional working standards."

Naeema further clarified that her professional approach and working style did not align with the director’s conventional execution methods. Regarding the casting clash, she emphasized that she only offered constructive suggestions after Sangeeta explicitly asked for her input. However, it appeared the veteran director was perhaps not comfortable accepting analytical feedback from a junior artist. Naeema eventually returned the advance amount completely and extended her heartfelt best wishes to Sangeeta, concluding that she deeply respects her as a legendary senior who has contributed immense milestones to Pakistani cinema.
